A gunman shot and killed at least nine people and several injured in a shooting outside of a busy suburban Dallas mall in Texas, on Saturday.
Dallas: A gunman shot and killed at least 9 people and injured several on Saturday in a shooting outside of a busy suburban Dallas mall, and a suspect was dead, local media reported.
Some of the victims were as young as five years old, CNN reported.
There was no update on the number of people injured or their condition at the outlet mall.
Multiple people were injured, and the shooter was dead at the scene, local ABC affiliate WFAA TV reported, citing the Collin County Sheriff.
“He pretty much was walking down the sidewalk just … shooting his gun outside,” an eyewitness told the station. “He was just shooting his gun everywhere for the most part.”
A police officer was in the mall on an unrelated call when gunfire broke out around 3:30 p.m. (2030 GMT), said chief Brian Harvey of the Allen, Texas, police department.
“He heard gunshots, went to the gunshots, engaged the suspect, and neutralized the suspect,” Harvey said. “He also then called for ambulances.”
Harvey confirmed there had been fatalities but declined to give a death count, saying “we do not have an accurate count.”
Allen Fire Chief Jonathan Boyd said his department “transported nine victims to area trauma facilities.”
Video clips from local media showed cops hurrying customers out of the shopping centre, with squad vehicles and emergency vehicles parked near entryways.
White sheets covered the bodies, and blood could be seen on the sidewalks outside.
Collin County officials and the Allen Police Department were not immediately available to comment.
“Law enforcement is on the scene at Allen Premium Outlets. An active investigation is underway. Please avoid the area until further updates,” the Allen Police Department said in a Twitter post.
