India vs Pakistan: India start training at iconic MCG ahead of their T20 World Cup opener
Rohit Sharma’s team India started training at the Melbroune Cricket Ground on Friday, October 21. The team is set to take on Pakistan in their opening encounter, set to be played on Sunday, October 23. Rohit Sharma and co. were earlier based out of Brisbane where they trained for a couple of weeks and played a warm-up match against defending champions Australia.
Rohit Sharma would be hoping to overturn India’s recent history in the T20 World Cup, where India have not had a dominating run. In the 2021 edition of the tournament, India were knocked out in the group stage after consecutive defeats against Pakistan and New Zealand in their first two matches.
Pakistan, on the other hand, did well in the last edition of the tournament, but have been terribly out of form. They lost a 7-match home series against England and were also terribly poor in the only warm-up match they were able to complete. Questions revolve around Pakistan’s batting order, who have been criticised for their approach in he modern T20 game.
According to journalist Boria Majumdar, Mohammad Nawaz hit a shot and the ball ended up smacking on Masood’s head during a training session. The left-hander was lying down the ground for 5-7 minutes after being hit and further clarity on his availability for the marquee could only be available once he is back from hospital.
Who will replace Masood if he is ruled out?
Pakistan will be sweating on his fitness now and if concussion protocols are taken into consideration, if Shan Masood feels dizzy, he might well miss the epic clash against India. In that case, Fakhar Zaman who was included in the 15-member squad only recently is likely to be included in the playing XI.
