Pakistan have threatened to boycott the 2023 fifty-over World Cup in India after Jay Shah’s statement on the 2023 Asia Cup and Team India’s participation.
Shah confirmed that India will not travel to Pakistan and the ACC is likely to find a new venue for the tournament.
Ramiz Raja-led PCB reacted strongly and urged the Asian Cricket Council to call a meeting to discuss about the comments made by the BCCI secretary and president of ACC.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has questioned PCB’s strategy. He feels Pakistan will be out of international cricket if they refuse to play in India.a
“PCB should have waited because there was no statement from the Asian Cricket Council. Even what Jay Shah said came out through media. He was speaking as BCCI secretary and not the president of ACC,” said Kaneria.
“By issuing a statement, PCB has made their stance official which could back-fire in the end. If they decide to boycott the World Cup in India, Pakistan will not remain in international cricket,” he added.
The two nations will clash on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
