Bhat, in a statement, issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) has also made an appeal for release of other detenues languishing in different jails since years.

He said that most of the families of detenues back home are suffering from economic and psychological distress and he expected compassion from the executive keeping in the precedent of a welfare state.

“Jammu and Kashmir has been witness to various problems and makes a special case for a just and liberal view in respect of people influenced by political discourses. In past a reconciliatory approach had been adopted which helped build a constituency of confidence, trust and belief in the accommodative system,” he said.

He said the past practices of amnesty and compassion could be continued to give further confidence to people to live in peace, harmony and play a participatory role in rebuilding trust.
