Former India player Sanjay Manjrekar feels Virat Kohli will face stiff competition from young players in T20Is.
The veteran was m not picked for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. However, Manjrekar is sure that Virat still wants to be a part of the shortest format.
Kohli, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma are out of the T20I squad, but will return for one-day internationals.
Hardik Pandya will lead the Men in Blue in Rohit’s absence. Sanju Samson, Rahul Tripathi, Suryakumar Yadav, and Deepak Hooda are likely to bat in the middle-order.
“Virat had a pretty good World Cup and I would have liked him to play every match and be among the run-scorers. It is good to be in a match situation. Virat will face pressure from young players, who are getting chances in his place,” he told ESPNcricinfo.
“Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan have done well. I feel Virat still wants to play in T20Is and is in the plans but young guys will not make things easy for him,” he added.
The national selection committee has already decided to phase out Virat and Rohit from the slam-bang version of the game and the series against Lanka is just the beginning.
